Back Country Emergency Response Team

Missoula Emergency Services in collaboration with Missoula County Search and Rescue have developed a specialized medical team to assist with backcountry medical and traumatic emergencies. The team consists of EMT Paramedics and EMT Basics with Endorsements. Team members train and perform exercises with Missoula County Search and Rescue to prepare for the numerous environmental conditions that exist in western Montana. In these photographs you will see a heavy snow and avalanche scenario with overnight snow caves that was staged near the Snowbowl Ski Area and the recent Grizzly Man race that took place near Mt. Sentinel. All of the care providers with the Backcountry Emergency Response Team show special interest in rural care, whether they are life long natives, avid hunters, wilderness trained EMT’s or just regularly enjoy the beautiful scenery that Montana has to offer. We hope to continue providing excellent care as more and more Montanan’s get outdoors and enjoy our state wilderness areas.
